Today’s Firstie Friday is the Brigade Executive Officer MIDN 1/C Lian Dunlevy, a member of 15th Company from Morgantown, West Virginia.
Dunlevy chose to attend the Naval Academy because he wanted more than just academic development: “I wanted to go somewhere where I could develop as a leader in mind, body, and character.” He is currently a Trident Scholar majoring in Mechanical Engineering and the chapter president of both Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. His favorite memory at the Academy so far is the Army-Navy Ball Run in 2019 with 13th Company.
Dunlevy has taken many leadership lessons from his time as a midshipman, and still clings to a lesson he learned as a plebe. His plebe summer squad leader would remind him of a quote by Theodore Roosevelt: “nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Dunlevy has grown to love this reminder and holds it close even three years later.
As of yesterday, Dunlevy is the Academy’s newest Submarine Officer select and looks forward to seeing the rest of the Class of 2023 get their service assignments in November. BZ MIDN Dunlevy!
