Today’s Firstie Friday is Midshipman 1/C (senior) Moses Tauteoli from Holladay, Utah. He is the former executive officer and a current squad leader of 1st Company.
Tauteoli is a computer science major and an active member of Latter-day Saints Student Association, Golden Key Honor Society, and Upsilon Pi Epsilon Society. In 2015, he was the first Tongan-American to be a United States Senate Page in Washington, D.C. as a junior in high school. During this time, he had the opportunity to meet former President Barack Obama, President Joe Biden, Senator John McCain, and many other political figures.
A former member of the Class of 2021, Tauteoli used his ability to speak the Chinese language and took two years off to serve in Malaysia and Singapore as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He holds his faith as the center of his life and what he attributes to leading him to the Naval Academy. He learned the value of public service from his parents - his mother was a middle school principal and his father was the first Tongan-American doctor in the United States. Throughout his experiences, his grandfather has been a role model for him living by the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: “In my walks, every man I meet is my superior in some way, and in that I learn from him.”
In his final semester, he looks forward to being a squad leader. “It’s hands down the best billet at the academy and the closest leadership billet to the people,” said Tauteoli.
Tauteoli will commission into the Submarine Force in May 2023.
