Today’s Firstie Friday is Midshipman 1/C (senior) Peyton Smith from Canton, Ohio. A proud member of the 24th Company, she currently serves as the Battalion Commander for Fifth Battalion.
Smith is a dual major in mathematics with economics and operations research. She is an alto in the USNA Women's Glee Club and also sings for the women’s a capella group, “The Riveters.” She also volunteers with the Midshipman Action Group (MAG) and is an active member of Dolphin Club.
From a young age, Smith was always patriotic and grateful for all those who served in the Armed Forces before her. “I came to the Naval Academy to have the opportunity to serve my country, to develop myself into the best leader I could be for those I would lead, and to foster relationships with disciplined, conscientious, and selfless individuals.” Joining the military, says Smith, was a way for her to honor and repay the veterans before her.
Smith recalls her favorite memory at USNA: Service Assignment Night with her closest friends. “It was a moment of reflection for us all as we looked back upon the people we were and all of those who supported us and helped us reach our goals.”
In her final semester, Smith looks forward to serving as Fifth Battalion Commander, working on more service projects with MAG, and enjoying her last semester with her best friends.
Smith will commission into the Submarine Force in May 2023.
