Today’s Firstie Friday is Midshipman 1/C (senior) Adrain Johnson from South Dallas, Texas. Johnson is the Company Commander of 25th Company, the co-captain of the Brigade Boxing team, and an outstanding member of the Midshipmen Black Studies Club.
Johnson came to the Naval Academy to start a better life for his family. His motivation comes from his father, who has fought his whole life to create a better life for Johnson, and he believes this is his way of paying it back. Johnson’s leadership style comes from his admiration for Rear Adm. McNeal, USN, Ret. “He taught me to be a more vulnerable leader and to work your butt off for the people you lead. I try to embody this when I lead my company,” said Johnson.
Johnson says his favorite memory during his time at the academy was rappelling off the side of the U.S. Embassy in Liberia while on an LREC. A fun fact about Johnson is that he held an hour-long plank during plebe summer! A political science major with an accomplished boxing career thus far, Johnson is a three-time Brigade Boxing Champ and an NCBA National Boxing Champ. Tonight at 7 p.m., he will fight in Brigade Boxing Finals against MIDN 1/C Aidan McNally (also a three-time Brigade Boxing Champ) for the title of four-time Brigade Boxing Champ.
Johnson looks forward to graduating in May 2023, where he will commission into the U.S. Marine Corps.
