Today’s Firstie Friday is Midshipman 1/C (senior) Taiyo Tatara from Ohmiya, Japan. He is a member of 27th Company and serves as company Training Officer.
Tatara is president of the USNA Men's Glee Club and is the Public Affairs Officer for Lucky Bag, Silent Drill, and Sea Trials. He majors in Physics with an Astrophysics track, and one of his reasons for applying to USNA was his interest in becoming an astronaut and serving in the military.
When asked if anyone inspired his leadership style, Tatara said there “isn’t a particular person,” but gave a quote from one of his favorite shows: “Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy.”
One of his favorite experiences as a midshipman was his Language Study Abroad Program (LSAP) to Japan, visiting home and exploring the area with his friends. Tatara looks forward to commissioning week, where the Class of 2023 can celebrate the past eight semesters of hard work.
Tatara will commission as a Marine Ground officer in May 2023.
