Featured Firstie: 1/C Isabella Bogucki

POSTED ON: Friday, April 14, 2023 9:28 AM by mediarelations@usna.edu

This week’s Firstie Friday is Midshipman 1st Class (senior) Isabella Bogucki from Buffalo, N.Y. She is Third Company’s executive officer, a member of USNA GUIDEs, and on the Navy Boxing team. April is an eventful month for Bogucki as she is a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response/Command Managed Equal Opportunity (SAPR/CMEO) GUIDE and will compete in the Boxing National Championships this weekend.

Bogucki’s motivation to come to USNA came from her desire to have a challenging and rewarding future. “I was driven to the military based on the disciplined lifestyle and a challenging career which focused on working in tight-knit groups towards a greater cause,” said Bogucki. She has had many coaches who have inspired her leadership style over the years. One prominent quote she lives by is, “Each day is a new opportunity.” Bogucki wakes up every morning knowing with “every sunrise there’s a chance to change and make a difference.”

Her favorite memory at the academy was storming the field after Navy Football beat the Air Force Academy her plebe year. “It was one of the most exciting games to watch, and I remember feeling very proud to be a midshipman while cheering on the team with my friends,” said Bogucki. She attributes most of her favorite memories as a midshipman to her friends and companymates.

While sexual assault prevention takes place all year, during April we like to recognize those in the position of SAPR/CMEO GUIDEs as they help lead the brigade in the right direction during Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). Bogucki’s position as a GUIDE has been one of the most influential jobs that she has held at the academy. “The events throughout this month bring necessary awareness to the prevalence and effects of sexual assault, and are also meant to reaffirm our commitment to prevent it, which sparks the tough conversations that are essential to prevention.”

Bogucki will commission into the Marine Corps as a pilot in May 2023.
