On November 22, 2024, 1/C Aerospace Engineering majors in the Astronautical Track presented their Capstone projects at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Young Professionals, Students and Educators Conference, which was held at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Satellite Team MIDN Andrew Bui, Andrew Cabral, Abbey Parker, Connor Pettigrew and Lev Salov discussed USNA Orbital Small Propulsion Research using Efficient Yields (OSPREY) VAPORSAT, a 3U CubeSat with a passive liquid-to-vapor methanol propellant system that produces the necessary thrust to oppose drag and lengthen its Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) orbital lifetime. Rocket Team MIDN Cam August, Dan Fellows, Haley Hofmann, Jenna Jeletic, Georgia Martin, Josh Moran, James Roney, and Justice Walters described their rocket design for the NASA Student Launch Initiative to support the Artemis mission: A 107-inch long, 6-inch diameter fiberglass rocket with an L-motor that provides thrust to reach apogee at 4963ft and an avionics bay that houses sensors, a microcontroller with I2C communications, and an APRS transceiver to send sensor data to the ground station, with additional ground calculations to determine the survivability of a human payload.
