2/C Astro Majors Take Amateur Radio Exam

POSTED ON: Thursday, April 10, 2025 6:15 AM by Christine Maceo

On April 9, 2025, twelve Volunteer Examiners from the Anne Arundel Radio Club administered the Amateur Radio exam to 39 midshipmen, including 19 2/C Aerospace Engineering majors enrolled in EA367, Spacecraft Power and Communications.  Midshipmen prepared for the exam with a combination of in-class lectures and amateur radio study guides.  The purpose of the exam is to prepare students for Capstone projects in the Astronautical Engineering Track. The Navy Rocket Team (which participates in the NASA Student Launch Initiative) and the Naval Academy Small Satellite Program both include communications hardware and/or software that transmit on the amateur frequencies that require a license.  USNA is host to the W3ADO Amateur Radio Club.
