Midshipmen Present at SSEC

Aerospace Engineering majors MIDN Ethan Austermann, Brian DiMascio,Michael Huntington and Taiwo Wusu attended the Small Satellite Education Conference at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, accompanied by Professor Jin Kang, CAPT Mike Sanders and CAPT (ret) Ken Reightler, Space Shuttle astronaut and Distinguished Professor.  SSEC brings together educators, administrators and students to disseminatore knowledge and opportunities for CubeSats, ThinSats and High-Altitude Balloon launch programs, with an emphasis on student presentations and skill-based workshops.  CAPT Reightler was the Keynote Speaker at the conference.  MIDN Austermann and DiMascio presented "Remote Operations and Command Architecture of a Robotic Arm System onboard the ISS," detailing lessons learned from the satellite operations performed by the Midshipmen Space Operations Team for 50 hours from January-April 2024. MIDN Huntington and Wusu presented " An Outlook of Satellite Operations and Ground Stations," which proposed a low-cost option for a ground station to operate a satellite in low-earth orbit, using a Metro M4 microcontroller board and a commercial-off-the-shelf radio.
