W3ADO supports Sea Trials

POSTED ON: Wednesday, May 13, 2026 10:00 AM by Christine Maceo

On May 12, 2026, the USNA Amateur Radio Club, W3ADO, supported Sea Trials, the 14-hour military training and endurance exercise at the end of plebe year, which takes place at various locations throughout the Yard and Naval Support Activity Annapolis.  W3ADO provided operations and safety communications throughout the event with 18 radio telephone operators (RTOs) at a Net Control station, a Relay station, 3 mobile Command stations, 2 Operations stations, a Safety Station, and 6 Battalion stations. Net Control operated from a mobile trailer at Hospital Point and included a live map that marked the location of every operator during the event.  All RTOs were licensed by the FCC as Amateur Radio Operators.  Three VHF frequencies were in use for primary (USNA-1) and back-channel communications (USNA-2 and USNA-3).  The RTOs completed several training sessions as well as a Dry Run to prepare for Sea Trials 2026.
