POSTED ON: Monday, March 14, 2022 12:00 AM by Sarah Durkin

Best Practices in STEM Outreach DoD Workshop was held at USNA on March 14, 2022. Thirty-seven participants attended from various commands, including representatives from Navy Recruiting Command's Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Richmond, Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Norfolk, Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Lakehurst, Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Philadelphia, and Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Washington, DC.

Designed for newcomers to STEM outreach and to enhance current programs at DoD commands, this workshop presented best practices for successful implementation of engaging, DoD-relevant activities and methods to build and sustain STEM communities. Sessions included hands-on activities in topics including acoustics, biotechnology, buoyancy, chemistry, circuits, energy, engineering design, flight, and hydraulics. Participants gained practical, take-away materials including ready-to-use activities and supplies to support their own command STEM outreach efforts. USNA STEM Center programs are sponsored by DoD STEM, the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the Naval Academy Foundation.
