Over 30 middle and high school-aged teams attended the in-person Maryland Regional SeaPerch Competition at USNA. Teams brought their SeaPerch underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV), which they designed, built, and modified, to compete in three areas: timed maneuvering operations in the Hydromechanics Lab tow tank, teamwork and design interviews, and creativity and engineering of the ROV.
The four highest ranking teams from each school level moved on to a Finals Mission Course in which they had to complete several advanced maneuverability tasks in a specified time period. Two middle school teams and two high school teams will move on to the International SeaPerch Challenge to be held at University of Maryland, College Park, in early June.
Sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, this event was made possible with volunteers from USNA and STEM Center Faculty and Staff, Navy Recruiters, Navy Medicine, and USNA Midshipmen. SeaPerch is a national program of RoboNation and sponsored by the Office of Naval Research.
