STEM Day at Fort McHenry 2022

On June 21, Naval Academy Midshipmen and Park Rangers brought science and history to life with a STEM Day held at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, MD. The program was attended by 260 high school students as a USNA Summer STEM Program field trip day presented by the USNA STEM Center and the Office of Admissions in collaboration with the National Park Service.
Students rotated through 8 stations which included presentations by Park Rangers and STEM activities led by 20 midshipmen from the Summer Heroes Youth Program (SHYP), with additional support from 40 midshipmen in the Summer STEM Program. Activities included a Fort tour, architecture, artillery demonstration, catapults, flag history and measurement, wetlands tour, boat stabilty and knot-tying, spread of disease, cryptography, and weather.
USNA STEM student programs are sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, DoD STEM, and the Naval Academy Foundation with generous support from Dr. Ernst Volgenau.
