SeaPerch Educator Training

POSTED ON: Saturday, November 5, 2022 12:00 AM by Patricia Meinhold

Twenty-five educators from schools systems across Maryland and the District of Columbia attended a day-long, hands-on build for SeaPerch held at the U.S. Naval Academy and made possible through support from the Office of Naval Research. SeaPerch is a Robonation program centered around an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

Educators in attendance had a full day of trying their hand at skill sets necessary to undertake the build of the ROV, such as cutting and drilling PVC pipe, stripping wire, and soldering components. A lunchtime discussion regarding how to start a team at their schools was also undertaken. Working in teams, attendees constructed their ROV from start to finish, culminating in maneuvering their SeaPerch in the 120-foot tow tank.

Many thanks once again to the staff of the USNA Hydromechanics Lab for making this training day possible through their support and use of their spaces.
