In June, the USNA STEM Center and the Office of Admissions welcomed 840 high school students to the 2023 Summer STEM Program. These students were selected based on a rigorous application process and invited to spend a week here at the U.S. Naval Academy for a vibrant week of problem solving, exploratory learning, critical thinking, and team building for rising 9th-11th graders interested in a future in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
In addition to field trips and team building activities on the Yard, students spent the majority of each day in an academic setting inside the state-of-the art classrooms and laboratories working alongside Naval Academy faculty and midshipmen. Topics this year included: characteristics of rocket flight, machine learning, biotechnology, aquaculture engineering, DIY wireless data transfer, rotary wing dynamics, cryptography, cybersecurity, and more!
USNA STEM student programs are sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, DoD STEM, and the Naval Academy Foundation.
