POSTED ON: Sunday, November 10, 2024 12:00 AM by Antje Hlavaty

The U.S. Naval Academy STEM Center and the Office of Admissions presented an interactive booth at San Diego Fleet Week held at Broadway Pier on Nov 6-10. STEM Instructor, Antje Hlavaty, along with 7 midshipmen and a Naval reservist, engaged families and students of all ages with hands-on activities including a rocket launcher, cryptography and puzzles, a buoyancy challenge, and electrical etching of stainless steel dog tags. About 20,000 people attended the Fleet Week events including Student STEM Days on Wednesday and Thursday and Innovation Days open to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Fleet Weeks are a Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard tradition at many ports where active military ships have deployed and are held yearly to educate the public about these services. The first Fleet Week was held in San Diego in 1935.
