Commissioning Week Weather Forecast (23 MAY 2018)

POSTED ON: Wednesday, May 23, 2018 7:24 AM by Meteorologist A.R. Davies

Executive Summary :

  • Wednesday: Early morning patchy fog will give way to partly sunny skies and comfortable conditions. Northwest wind 5-10 mph. High near 80 oF.
  • Thursday: Sunny and pleasant. North wind 5-10 mph. High: 76-80 oF.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny and mild. Gradually increasing humidity late in the afternoon/evening. Southwest wind 8-13 mph. High: 78-82 oF.

Forecast Discussion (Posted 16 May 2018):

A weak cold front will pass around midday on Wednesday with no rain expected.  As the front passes, a few clouds could develop but generally sunny skies are on tap for the Blue Angels Demonstration. The humid air mass ahead of the front has resulted in patchy fog this morning that will quickly burn off. As the front passes today, the winds will shift out of the northwest and usher in less humid conditions. High pressure will build behind the front on Thursday with sunny skies, a light north wind, and comfortable conditions. As projected by the NAM/Wrf Model below, expect sunny skies and temperatures in the low- to mid-70’s (with low humidity) for the Color Parade on Thursday.

The High will gradually shift off the U.S. Southeast coast on by Friday morning. As a result, southerly flow will develop which will gradually increase the humidity by Friday evening.  Conditions will be picturesque for Graduation on Friday with mostly sunny skies. At 0800 EDT the temperature will be in the mid-60’s and gradually climb into the mid-70’s during the ceremony (see NAM/Wrf Model temperature project below). Dew point temperatures will creep into the low 60’s by the end of Graduation, but that is still fairly comfortable for late May in Annapolis. Enjoy!
