Graduation Forecast (24 MAY 2018)

POSTED ON: Thursday, May 24, 2018 8:26 AM by Meteorologist A.R. Davies

Executive Summary:

  • Thursday: Sunny and pleasant. Northeast wind 5-10 mph. High near 80 oF.
  • Friday: Sunny and seasonably warm with gradually increasing humidity. South wind 8-13 mph. High: 80-84 oF.

Forecast Discussion:

High pressure overhead on Thursday will result in sunny conditions with a light northeast wind. The northly flow will keep the humidity low for a pleasant Spring day at the Academy. As projected by the NAM/Wrf Model below, the temperature will be in the mid- 70’s for the start of the Color Parade on Thursday.

Thurs 1100

The area of high pressure will move offshore Thursday night/Friday morning and become entrench off the U.S. East coast and near Bermuda through early next week. As a result, southerly flow will pull a warm and moist air mass into our region over the weekend. On Friday, plan on temperatures in the upper-60’s at 0800 EDT and increasing under sunny skies to near 80oF by noon. The southerly flow will gradually increase the dew point temperature and humidity throughout the day as well. As projected by the NAM/Wrf Model blow, the resulting Heat Index will creep into the low- to mid-80’s by the end of Graduation on Friday.
