Professor Silvia Peart, Professor of Languages and Cultures, FLAS Coordinator

Silvia Peart is Professor of Languages and Cultures at the United States Naval Academy. She received her Ph.D. in Spanish/Second Language Acquisition from Texas Tech University. Her research interest includes three focus areas: (1) learners’ cognitive progression when reading in an L2, as well as gender variables within this process; (2) intercultural competence, and (3) identity construction in the literary production of heritage language learners. Dr. Peart has published 8 articles and 4 book chapters in leading journals and edited volumes in her field. She has presented her research at national and international conferences.
