Forecast Discussion:
A back door cold front will pass the region Friday night. The front will likely stall just south of Annapolis on Saturday, before pushing back to our north as a warm front early on Sunday. With the front in the vicinity, there is a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday through Saturday during the afternoon, evening, and overnight hours, but a total wash-out is not expected as generally sunny skies will otherwise prevail.
Behind the warm front, Sunday and Monday will likely be warm and humid. Pop-up (summer-like) showers and thunderstorms are possible on Sunday in the afternoon, evening, and overnight. A cold front will likely pass on Monday night with afternoon/evening scattered showers and thunderstorms again possible.
Tuesday looks mostly sunny and pleasant with a drop in the humidity and a high temperature in the low 70’s. Wednesday will be similar, but another front will approach Wednesday evening/overnight with the possibility for scattered showers/storms.
A strong ridge of high pressure will build off the U.S. Southeast coast Thursday and linger through Saturday. The associated southerly flow will potentially result in seasonably warm and humid condition for the end of next week. Some isolated showers and storms could develop Friday afternoon, but otherwise generally sunny skies and warm conditions are anticipated for graduation at this time.
Check back for updates and information. Five day forecast will be issued on weekdays during Commissioning Week, and detailed Graduation forecasts will be issued on 20 and 22 May, with an addition forecasts on 23 May, if needed. All forecast can be accessed online at www.usna.edu/weather.
