The Fencing Club meets in Dahlgren Hall Monday through Friday, 1600-1800, and provides lessons for midshipmen who are beginners as well as advanced fencers. Navy fencers participate in regional and national men’s and women’s epee, foil, and saber competitions at the intercollegiate club level, as well as in U.S. Fencing Association open tournaments.
The Fencing team has achieved two of our goals for the 2016-2017 season:
- Baltimore Washington Collegiate Fencing Conference (BWCFC) Champions! Navy went undefeated in the Fall and Spring BWCFC meets to place first in the overall team standings. The undefeated saber squad (13-0) placed 1st, epee (10-3) placed 3rd, and foil (9-4) placed 6th.
- Southern Atlantic Conference Combined Team Champions! The men's and women's teams each finished second overall, which were strong enough performances to win the Combined Team Championship. Men's foil and women's saber won gold, men's saber won silver, men's and women's epee won bronze, and women's foil placed 4th. Individual results are posted under our Schedule and Results section.
The team also finished 6th overall in the 2017 Mid Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Assocation Championships, our best finish since becoming a full member of MACFA in 2015. Navy was recognized with the MACFA Sportsmanship Award for the 2nd year in a row.
