Institutional Research, Planning & Analysis
Employment RatesGraduates from USNA receive a bachelor of science degree and are generally commissioned as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps to serve their minimum 5 year commitment. A small number may be cross-commissioned to serve as officers in other U.S. services (Air Force, Army, or Coast Guard). Up to 60 midshipmen (first-year through seniors) may hail from allied countries; these international graduates do not receive a commission. Rather, upon graduation international graduates return to their home countries to enter into their country's obligated service. Hence, employment rates are 100% every year due to the obligated service requirement.
First Year Retention RatesFirst year retention rate for midshipmen retained as of August 31 of sophomore year. Note that this includes the period known as Plebe Summer consisting of a 7 week military indoctrination before the start of freshman fall classes.
