Capt Spencer Michelson, USMC

Captain Michelson is a native of Overland Park, KS. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2015, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Systems Engineering and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following completion of The Basic School in Quantico, VA, he reported to flight school in Pensacola, FL. In October of 2017, First Lieutenant Michelson earned his wings of gold as a Naval Aviator and went on to complete training as a UH-1Y pilot at HMLAT-303 aboard MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA.

First Lieutenant Michelson joined Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 369, the Gunfighters, aboard MCAS Camp Pendleton, CA in July 2018. He was promoted to Captain in September of 2019. During his time with the Gunfighters, he supported numerous exercises, detachments, and deployments. Most notable include HMLA-369’s Unit Deployment Program 20.1 to Okinawa, Japan, 31st MEU Deployment 22.1, and Operation Faithful Patriot Border Support.

Upon completion of his tour with the Gunfighters, Captain Michelson reported to the United States Naval Academy in June 2022 to serve as a Leadership Instructor.  His additional duties include serving as the USNA Marine Detachment Training Officer, the Varsity Baseball Officer Representative, and the Marine Company Mentor for 4th Company.
