Karl F. Beyer Memorial Graduate Scholarship

Dr. Kurt Beyer (USNA 1990) founded the Beyer Scholarship in 2019 to honor his father, Karl F. Beyer, who is the only family namesake to survive Nazi Germany.  Karl immigrated to the United States after World War II, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and settled in New York to raise a family.  Dr. Kurt Beyer graduated from United States Naval Academy in 1990, played Varsity Baseball and served as Brigade Commander. Kurt was awarded the Fitzgerald Scholarship (est. 1989) to Oxford University. At Oxford Kurt completed an M.A. in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, played on Oxford’s UK Championship Basketball team, and rowed for Oxford.  Lieutenant Beyer flew F-14 Tomcats and had his naval career cut short due to Injury.

The Karl F. Beyer Scholarship supports up to two years of study in any graduate degree at the University of Oxford, Brasenose College. Beyer Scholars should not only achieve academic, athletic, and leadership excellence, but demonstrate strength of character, courage in their convictions, and the ability to make difficult choices. Scholars should leverage their experience and relationships forged at Oxford to further contribute to the United States Navy and Marine Corps and should lead a lifetime of service committed to their communities and in defense of the United States Constitution.
