Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do we get to the yard on I-Day?

For families and Midshipmen Candidates, the Yard is accessible as a Pedestrian to walk on via Gate 1, Gate 3, and Gate 8, along with using the shuttle service from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (NMCMS).

2. Am I able to park on the yard and walk my plebe up?

Families and guests will not be permitted to park on the Yard. All family members and friends should plan to park off the Yard. Parking is available at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, where shuttle bus service to the Naval Academy will be provided.

Family members and friends may accompany their plebe on foot onto the Yard.

Please note, this does not apply to CAC or DoD ID card holders.

3. What time should family members show up for the Oath of Office ceremony?

It is recommended that family and friends show up no later then 5:45 p.m. Midshipmen candidates will begin seating earlier and the official program will start promptly at 6 p.m. Family/friends will be able to visit with plebes for approximately thirty minutes immediately following the Oath of Office Ceremony

4. Is there a live stream for the Oath of Office Ceremony?

Yes, the live stream can be found here: https://youtube.com/live/Bdl40GDFD4w?feature=share

5. When are the phone calls home this year?

Plebes will only be permitted phone calls, not video calls. Arrangements will be made for international calls.
The phone calls this year are currently scheduled for the following times:
12 July 2026, 1300-1330
02 August 2026, 1630-1700

6. I submitted a DBIDS Pre-Enrollment. What happens next?

Now that General Public Visitation (GPV) has resumed, DBIDS cards or temporary passes, as outlined in the PTR, are no longer required for entry to the Yard.

DBIDS temporoary passes will be available for pickup for those who completed the pre-enrollment process. This pass will allow for swift access/re-entry during your visit for Induction Day.

Pick up location: USNA Gate 1
24 June 2026, 1200-1600
25 June  2026, 0700-1400

Parents and guardians who were not previously enrolled or were unable to complete the pre-enrollment process in time are encouraged to complete the pre-enrollment process as soon as possible so DBIDS applications can be reviewed in time for Plebe Parents' Weekend.

Physical DBIDS cards will be availabe for collection during Plebe Parents' Weekend.

7. Who is eligible to conduct a personal swearing-in ceremony?

The personal swearing-in may be conducted by a relative or close family friend that is an active duty, reserve or retired military member. Some civilian government offices are authorized to conduct swearing-ins. Normal protocol for Oath of Office ceremonies should be followed.

8. Is this personal swearing-in the midshipmen candidate’s official Oath of Office?

No, the personal swearing-in is ceremonial only. The personal swearing-in is a favorite custom that the Naval Academy utilizes in order to allow midshipmen candidates to share the experience with their family and friends. The midshipmen candidates will sign their official Oath of Office with a commissioned officer earlier in the day and they will take their Oath of Office with the Commandant of Midshipmen during the Oath of Office ceremony T-Court at 6 p.m.

9. Where is the personal swearing-in ceremony conducted?

This ceremony is strictly ceremonial and can be conducted at any location on the Yard. The prescribed uniform is Navy Summer White or service equivalent; if a uniform is unavailable, appropriate civilian business attire is requested.
