The Marine Detachment at the United States Naval Academy recruits, trains, mentors, screens, and selects Midshipmen for service as Marine officers. Marines assigned to the Naval Academy serve across the Yard as faculty, company officers, staff, coaches, and mentors while representing the Marine Corps to the Brigade of Midshipmen.

  • Who We Are

    The Marine Detachment represents the United States Marine Corps at the Naval Academy. The detachment provides mentorship, training, professional development, and service assignment support to Midshipmen interested in becoming Marine officers.

    Marines assigned to USNA serve throughout the institution as instructors, company officers, coaches, mentors, and staff members, helping prepare Midshipmen for the challenges and responsibilities of leading Marines.

    The Marine Corps is America’s expeditionary force in readiness. Marines are prepared to respond rapidly to crises around the globe, serving as a combined-arms force capable of operating on land, at sea, and in the air.

    Marine officers lead Marines across every warfighting domain including ground combat, aviation, logistics, cyber, intelligence, communications, and information warfare.

    Becoming a Marine officer begins long before service assignment. Midshipmen should seek mentorship, pursue Marine Corps experiences, develop physically and academically, and demonstrate the leadership expected of future officers.

  • Summer Training

    Summer training provides Midshipmen firsthand exposure to the Marine Corps and prepares them for future leadership opportunities. Experiences include PROTRAMID, Leatherneck, MAGTF training, aviation opportunities, and fleet experiences.

    Each program builds confidence, develops leadership, and helps Midshipmen make informed service assignment decisions.
