Hydromechanics Laboratory
Roger_Compton_Planing_Boat.jpeg
For the past 45 years, the Naval Academy Hydromechanics Laboratory (NAHL) has collected and analyzed an extensive amount of student and faculty/staff experimental data.  Such data encompasses the full spectrum of naval architecture/marine engineering and ocean/coastal engineering research.  Though much of this historic data still remains unpublished (or in a paper-only format), NAHL now strives to digitize past experimental results to encourage future collaboration and technical exploration.
StandardG Software
StandardG is a free/publicly-available, MATLAB-based algorithm for analyzing shipboard accelerations.  This algorithm was developed and improved by NAHL's previous Branch Head, Mr. John Zseleczky.  For a downloadable copy of StandardG, please contact the current NAHL Branch Head by e-mail.
ENM Capstone Model Database

Midshipmen in the Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering (ENM) major develop comprehensive ship designs/models during their senior (1/C) year at USNA.  These capstone designs, though academic/educational in nature, still depend on a mastery of fundamental naval architecture principles/concepts.  Recently, the field of machine learning (ML) has generated a demand signal for historic ship design data, including towing tank test data.  In an effort to support future ML research, NAHL has created (and will now maintain) a publicly-accessible (digital) database of student capstone models and associated experimental data.
