Coaching at USNA
The United States Naval Academy is leading the way in the implementation and cultivation of a coaching culture, preparing both midshipmen and staff to model this critical leadership skill across the Navy and Marine Corps. Since 2021, the LEAD Division and the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, in coordination with the Commandant and Academic Dean, have conducted numerous workshops and seminars focused on leadership coaching and practice.
The three core skills of coaching in the Navy are:
(1) Active listening
(2) Empathy
(3) Asking powerful questions
Coaching education and training at USNA is modeled off the larger Chief of Naval Personnel (CNP)-led MyNavy Coaching initiative.
