Lieutenant Commander Bergstrom is currently serving as Law
Section Head and Assistant Professor of Military Law at the United States Naval Academy. LCDR Bergstrom received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Wyoming in 1999. In 2003, he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law. During law school he interned with Jerry Spence's law firm, Spence, Moriarity, & Schuster. Following law school, LCDR Bergstrom was an associate at the New Mexico law firm, Rodey, Dickason, Sloan, Akin, & Robb, where he practiced in the area of medical malpractice defense. He is admitted to the state bars of Wyoming (2003) and New Mexico (2005). LCDR Bergstrom was commissioned in the Navy JAG Corps as a Direct Appointment in March 2008. He attended Officer Development School in May 2008 and graduated from the Basic Lawyer Course at Naval Justice School in October 2008.

Lieutenant Commander Bergstrom reported to Naval Legal Service Office Northwest Branch Office Whidbey Island in October 2008, where he served as Branch Head, Defense Counsel, and Legal Assistance attorney until March 2011. In April 2011, LCDR Bergstrom reported to USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) where he served as the Discipline Officer and deployed in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM. LCDR Bergstrom reported to RLSO SW in April 2013 where he served as Trial Counsel and General Crimes Division Officer. In September 2016, LCDR Bergstrom reported to the Victims' Legal Counsel Program in San Diego, California and served as the OIC until August, 2019. Following his time as the OIC for the VLC Program in San Diego, LCDR Bergstrom reported to the United States Naval Academy where he served as the Commandant's Legal Adivisor. In August, 2021 he reported to Code 61 as the Recruiting Program Manager.

LCDR Bergstrom’s personal awards include two Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals.
