Lieutenant Commander Bergstrom is the Law Section Head, NL400 Course Director, and an Assistant Professor of Military Law at the United States Naval Academy.
LCDR Bergstrom received his Bachelor of Arts in Education and Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming. Prior to accepting a commission in the Navy JAG Corps, he defended medical malpractice lawsuits in New Mexico. LCDR Bergstrom received his commission as a LTJG in March 2008. Following Officer Development School and Naval Justice School, he reported to Naval Legal Service Office Northwest Branch Office Whidbey Island.
LCDR Bergstrom has served as an Officer In Charge, Branch Head, Division Officer, Staff Judge Advocate, Action Officer, Program Manager, Defense Counsel, Trial Counsel, and Victims’ Legal Counsel. In 2011, he deployed with USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) in support of Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM.
In addition to teaching NL400, LCDR Bergstrom serves as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland and is the Officer Representative for the Naval Academy Leadership Conference.
