Lieutenant Commander Joe Fondale, a native of Junction City, Ohio, joined the LEAD division in January 2024 serving as a course instructor for NL 310: Organizational Behavior- the Naval Academy’s core leadership course for Second Class Midshipmen. 

Prior to joining LEAD LCDR Fondale held faculty positions and instructed courses at the University of North Dakota, Ohio University, and within the Physical Education Department at USNA. At USNA he has served on the faculty senate (two terms) and the faculty senate assessment committee.

In 2016 LCDR Fondale served as manpower analyst for Joint military force U.S. Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction (SCC WMD). 

The following year LCDR Fondale reported to Navy Recruiting District- Richmond where he led a recruiting division with stations in Silver Spring MD, Hyattsville MD, Manassas VA, Winchester VA, Washington D.C., and Fairfax VA.  As a recruiter LCDR Fondale was the nation’s top producing recruiter for two consecutive years and earned Regional Reserve Officer Recruiter of the Year in 2019 and 2020.

In 2022 LCDR Fondale reported to NR CNIC HQ serving as manpower analyst and department head.  As chief of the Crisis Action Team he led CNIC’s efforts in damage assessment and Joint recovery efforts after the island of Guam was damaged by typhoon Mawar.

LCDR Fondale earned Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science degrees from Ohio University while earning four varsity letters and being named captain as a senior member of the football team.
