Major Huss earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota in 2011 with a double major in Philosophy and Catholic Studies and a minor in Latin. Major Huss graduated from the University of St. Thomas Law School in May 2014 and entered the Minnesota Bar in October 2014.
Major Huss was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in August 2013 after completing Officer Candidate School. Major Huss reported to The Basic School in September 2015 and graduated from Golf Company 1-17. Major Huss was then assigned to the Legal Services Support Team, Parris Island, SC in 2016. Major Huss attended the Basic Lawyer Course at the Naval Justice School, Newport, Rhode Island, and then served as a Defense Counsel within the Marine Corps Defense Services Organization (DSO) until July 2019. Major Huss represented Marines and Sailors in some of the most sensitive and high-profile trials within the military courts, including sexual assault offenses, attempted murder, murder, and other complex felony trials.
Major Huss was then assigned to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate for the Third Marine Aircraft Wing aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA from 2019 to 2023. During that time he helped advise over 40 squadron and group commanders on matters involving military justice, administrative investigations and separations, ethics, and officer misconduct. Also during this time Major Huss deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2022 to establish the first Marine Rotational Force Southeast Asia to build cooperation with allies and partners in the region.
Major Huss has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment ribbon.
Major Huss reported to the United States Naval Academy in the Summer of 2023 to serve as an Assistant Professor of Military Law.
