Olin Sell is a native of New York, NY, and a 1992 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
Sell’s operational tours included Assistant Platoon Commander at SEAL Team One; Officer in Charge - Special Boat Unit Eleven; Platoon Commander at SEAL Team Two; Operations Officer at Naval Special Warfare Unit Three (NSWU-3) in Bahrain; Operations & Plans Officer at Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT), Operations Director at a National Mission Force Joint Task Force, and Squadron Commander at Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG). He has made numerous operational deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Pacific, Africa and Europe.
His shore assignments included tours with the Navy Bureau of Personnel (BUPERS), Chief of Naval Operations, SEAL Team Seventeen, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Special Operations Command - Europe (SOCEUR), the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, the U.S. Department of State’s Counterterrorism Bureau, and 6th Fleet Commander Task Force (CTF) 68 in Rota, Spain.
Sell retired from the Navy in May 2022 and entered the private sector as Director of Federal Enterprise Solutions with VIRSIG LLC, a technology and security company bringing rapid security solutions and asset management to the warfighter. Olin is currently a Distinguished Military Professor at the U.S. Naval Academy and Chair of the Character Development Department under the Leadership, Ethics and Development Directorate.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Naval War College, the Navy Operational Planning Course, and Tuck School of Business Next Step at Dartmouth University. He was a Fellow with The Honor Foundation, and is currently a Fellow with the HillVets LEAD Program.
