Week 1

Q1. What is dignity and why is it important for military leaders to treat everyone with dignity? (NL110)

A1. Dignity is a human’s inherent worth; nothing can forfeit someone’s right to dignity.  Military leaders must recognize this fact and strive to treat everyone they interact with in a manner that supports dignity. If we are charged to treat our enemies with dignity, how can we do any less to our brothers and sisters in arms?

Q2. How might our social aspirations lead us to do things we generally would otherwise think wrong to do? (NE203)

A2. According to C.S. Lewis in the ‘Inner Ring,’ we may feel a natural desire and/or pressure to be among the inner ring (in-crowd) when we find ourselves on the outside of that ring.  That desire and/or pressure may cause us to excuse ourselves of our otherwise known responsibilities while in pursuit of our desired inner ring.
