A1. According to Luban in ‘Integrity: Its Causes and Its Cures,’ we experience cognitive dissonance or psychological stress caused by holding contradictory beliefs or values . Luban believes you will take the high or low road in response to this cognitive dissonance. The high road involves changing one’s actions to match one’s values. The low road involves changing one’s values to match one’s actions.
Q2. How does the definition of Ethical Leadership apply to a small unit leader? (NL310)
A2. “The demonstration of normatively appropriate conduct through personal actions and interpersonal relationships, and the promotion of such conduct to followers through two-way communication, reinforcement, and decision-making.” This definition can be broken down into three parts
1. What norms or behaviors do we want and expect within the team;
2. How we act on a daily basis within the norms of the organization (or the behaviors you desire);
3. How we develop those on a daily basis.
