Week 16

Q1. What criteria is used to justify going to war? (NE203)

A1.  Just War Criteria:

1) War must be declared by a legitimate authority;

2) War must be fought in pursuit of a just cause;

3) War must be fought with the right intention;

4) War must be a last resort;

5) There must be a likelihood of success;

6) There must be proportionality of ends.

Q2. What does it mean to love those that you lead?  How can you show that love for them? (NL110)

A2. Love in the context of leadership means to be dedicated to the growth of those that you lead.  There are many ways to show that love: buying your Sailors gatorade while they are doing topside preservation, making sure that personal requests get taken care of quickly, and seeking out ways for your Sailors to advance are all good examples.  Holding others accountable is also a way to be dedicated to the growth of those you lead.  If someone is not held accountable when mistakes are made, those mistakes can continue to happen and the effect may snowball.  High but fair standards (combined with the elements of a solid relationship) will help your followers reach higher levels of potential and will contribute to the success of the unit as a whole.
