Musician 1st Class Michael Fleming

Musician 1st Class Michael Fleming began playing the tuba when he was 13 years old. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and Music Education Certification from Carnegie Mellon University and his Master of Music from Yale University. Michael’s primary teachers include Zach Collins, Craig Knox, Warren Deck, and Carol Jantsch.
Prior to joining the Navy, Michael performed with ensembles such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, River City Brass Band, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Westmoreland Symphony, Canton Symphony, and Norwalk Symphony. He also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School where he performed with the Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2022, Fleming auditioned and was selected for assignment with the U.S. Naval Academy Band. Following recruit training at RTC Great Lakes, he reported for duty as tubist with the brass quintet, brass ensemble, marching band, and ceremonial units. He also serves as PAO Assistant.
