Musician 1st Class Marcus Flores

Musician 1st Class Marcus Flores received a Bachelor of Music Education in 2013 from New Mexico State University and a Master of Music in trumpet performance in 2015 from Bowling Green State University. He also attended the University of North Texas, pursuing a doctoral degree in trumpet performance. His primary teachers include Frank “Pancho” Romero, Charles Saenz, John Holt, and Caleb Hudson.

In 2015, Flores was named the winner of the International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition. He has performed with the Toledo Symphony, Amarillo Symphony, Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Southwest Symphony, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, Avant Chamber Ballet, and Dallas Opera. He was also a member of the faculty brass quintet at New Mexico State University. 

Prior to joining the Navy, Flores served as Director of Bands at the Clovis High School Freshman Academy in Clovis, New Mexico, where his bands consistently received superior ratings. During this time, he also assisted with the Clovis High School Wildcat Marching Band. While Flores was on staff, the band was crowned State Champions at the New Mexico ZIA Marching Fiesta for three years consecutively and named winners of the 2016 New Mexico State University Tournament of Bands competition.

In 2020, Flores auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band. Following recruit training at RTC, Great Lakes, he reported for duty as trumpeter with the brass quintet, brass ensemble, marching band, and ceremonial units. His collateral duties include Public Affairs Assistant and Auditions Assistant.

Flores is a recipient of the Armed Forces Service Medal.
