Musician 1st Class Nicholas Hogg

Musician 1st Class Nicholas Hogg is a native of Gloucester, England and grew up in Howard County, Maryland. He received a Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from the University of Maryland College Park in 2016 and earned a Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music in 2018. He earned a second Master of Music degree from Rice University in 2020. His primary teachers include Barry Hearn, Larry Zalkind, Allen Barnhill, and Per Brevig.
Hogg has performed with the Houston Symphony and Syracuse Symphoria across multiple seasons. He also spent four summers at the Aspen Music Festival. In the summer of 2019, Hogg received the Aspen Chamber Symphony Trombone Fellowship, performing as the Principal Trombonist of the Aspen Chamber Symphony. The same summer, he performed with jazz singer Gregory Porter in his Nat King Cole Tribute Concert, jazz pianist Jon Batiste for his concert talk at the Aspen Ideas Festival, and at Disney Animation Studios. He has recorded CDs with the NOI Philharmonic and the Eastman Wind Ensemble.
In 2022, Hogg auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band. Following recruit training at RTC Great Lakes, he reported for duty as trombonist with the trombone quartet, brass ensemble, marching band, and ceremonial units.
