Yard Patrol Operations


The mission of the Yard Patrol Operations is to provide for the operation of Yard Patrol Craft and Utility Boats, and the coordination of visiting vessels to the Annapolis Area Complex in support of Midshipmen training.

Yard Patrol Craft (YP)

YP operationsThe Operations Department is comprised of twenty-one 108ft Yard Patrol Craft (YP), and four 15M Utility Boats (UB) and their crews. We support numerous midshipmen training evolutions through every phase of their officer professional development training. YP's are utilized to support pierside familiarization, Basic Damage Control and underway evolutions consisting of Basic to Advanced Seamanship and Navigation. The Boat Division supports midshipmen  training by providing transportation to many events including Plebe Summer and the Sea Trials competition. They also provide the logistic support of ships visiting the Naval Academy in support of midshipmen training.

A Crew consists of a Craft Master (a senior Boatswains Mate (BM) or Quartermaster (QM)), an Engineman (EN) and two deck seaman. The average time spent in underway training is 150 days per crew, per year.
