Faculty Research
Joseph Milluzzo
Professor, Aerospace Engineering Department
Professor Joseph Milluzzo’s research is in the field of experimental fluid mechanics, focusing on the fluid dynamics of rotorcraft wakes. His research is part of a growing vertical lift program at USNA, encompassing course development, as well as research. Professor Milluzzo is currently investigating the Navy relevant problem of the effect of ship deck motion on the wake of a hovering rotor, as well as the corresponding rotor loads. This work is funded as part of a five year grant by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) through the Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence (VLRCOE) program, which is a collaborative effort between government and academia first established in 1982. The goal of this work is to provide an improved understanding of the rotor wake fluid dynamics that will allow for the development of flight dynamics models that can be used to better simulate rotorcraft landing on ship decks.
