Are proposals are routed through the department chairs. Proposals are typically 5-10 pages in length. Do not include a budget. There are no requirements on formatting (e.g. font, margins, etc.) A suggested outline is as follows. Sections 2 and 3 maybe organized or titled as appropriate to the disciplines but the remaining sections are required. Sections 5 and 6 are intended to help the research office identify future opportunities that may be of interest to you.
- SUMMARY OF RESEARCH. Non-technical language readable by an educated person outside your discipline; first page only.
- PROBLEM STATEMENT AND BACKGROUND. Detailed problem statement with citations to related work.
- METHOD OF INVESTIGATION AND INVESTIGATOR'S EXPERIENCE.
- VALUE OF PROJECT TO THE ACADEMY, NAVY, OR NATIONAL SECURITY. All projects should make a case for how this work supports the mission of the Navy or USNA (which may include ancillary impacts on curriculum or pedagogy)
- POTENTIAL EXTERNAL SPONSORS. Investigators should identify one or more possible future external sponsors for work of this nature. As much detail as available is appreciated to include: funding agencies, proposal solicitation or broad agency announcements, "codes" or divisions and/ or program manager if possible. e.g. A potential future funding source for this project could be the Office of Naval Research, Code 25, Division 351 Aerospace Structures, whose program manager is Mr. Will Smith

- RESUME A short 1-2 page research resume, listing education, research interests, select publications, and any relevant awards or professional society activities.
