Are proposals are routed through the department chairs.  Proposals are typically 5-10 pages in length.  Do not include a budget.  There are no requirements on formatting (e.g. font, margins, etc.)   A suggested outline is as follows.  Sections 2 and 3 maybe organized or titled as appropriate to the disciplines but the remaining sections are required.  Sections 5 and 6 are intended to help the research office identify future opportunities that may be of interest to you.

  1. SUMMARY OF RESEARCH. Non-technical language readable by an educated person outside your discipline; first page only.

  2. PROBLEM STATEMENT AND BACKGROUND. Detailed problem statement with citations to related work.

  3. METHOD OF INVESTIGATION AND INVESTIGATOR'S EXPERIENCE.

  4. VALUE OF PROJECT TO THE ACADEMY, NAVY, OR NATIONAL SECURITY.   All projects should make a case for how this work supports the mission of the Navy or USNA (which may include ancillary impacts on curriculum or pedagogy)

  5. POTENTIAL EXTERNAL SPONSORS.  Investigators should identify one or more possible future external sponsors for work of this nature.  As much detail as available is appreciated to include:  funding agencies, proposal solicitation or broad agency announcements, "codes" or divisions and/ or program manager if possible.    e.g. A potential future funding source for this project could be the Office of Naval Research, Code 25, Division 351 Aerospace Structures, whose program manager is Mr. Will Smith
will.S@us.navy.mil  On their web site they list as an area of interest:   Next Gen Materials-Topics in multi-principal element compositions and non-traditional deposition optimized metallic alloys.

  6. RESUME A short 1-2 page research resume, listing education, research interests, select publications, and any relevant awards or professional society activities.
