Making Arrangements
The death of a loved one can be one of the most difficult moments in a person’s life. The goal of the Department of Defense and Veterans Administration is to assist the families of our nation’s veterans and make the burial or inurnment of their loved ones as easy as possible. The Office of Memorial Affairs at the Naval Academy falls into the larger Military Cemetery system with the specific mission of laying to rest graduates of the US Naval Academy and their spouses. At the time of need, the legal next of kin of the Graduate or spouse may contact the Office of Memorial Affairs.Families will be asked to provide:
DD-214 of the Graduate
Death Certificate of the Decedent
Cremation Certificate (if cremation) / Burial Transit Permit (if casketed)
An Obituary, if available
UNFORTUNATLY, AT THIS TIME THE CURRENT COLUMBARIUM HAS REACHED CAPACITY. ALTHOUGH THE OFFICE REMAINS OPEN TO RECIEVE DOCUMENTS AND OPEN CASE FILES, NO FIRST INURNMENTS WILL TAKE PLACE UNTIL THE NEW SECTION OF THE COLUMBARIUM OPENS. THE TENTATIVE COMPLETION IS EXPECTED SOMETIME IN LATE 2027.
Contact may be made by either phone at 410-293-1101/1105 or email at MemorialAffairs-Group@usna.edu. A few documents that will answer many questions and guide the next of kin through the process can be found below.
