Musician 1st Class Daniel Coffman

Musician 1st Class Daniel Coffman is a native of Oak Park, Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from Indiana University in 2015, where he studied with Peter Ellefson. In 2017, he earned a Master of Music and Performance Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, studying with Larry Zalkind.
Coffman performed a large portion of the 2016-17 season with Symphoria (Syracuse, NY) and freelanced in the Rochester area. At Eastman, he was a member of the Remington Trombone Quartet, which was a finalist in the 2017 International Trombone Association Quartet Competition and was runner-up in the 2017 American Trombone Workshop Quartet Competition. Coffman can be heard playing lead trombone on CDs Fly! by Mitch Shiner and Intercambio by Wayne Wallace. He has performed with the York Symphony Orchestra (PA) and has also attended the National Orchestral Institute and Festival, Bar Harbor Brass Week, and the Rafael Méndez Brass Institute.
In 2016, Coffman auditioned and was selected for assignment to the U.S. Naval Academy Band. Following recruit training at RTC Great Lakes, he reported for duty as trombone instrumentalist in the marching band and ceremonial units, wind ensemble, brass ensemble, brass quintet, and trombone quartet. He also serves as Trombone Quartet Unit Leader, Auditions Supervisor and Administration Manager.
Coffman’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Medal.
