CDR Dan DeVos

CDR Dan DeVos, Center for Cyber Security Studies (CCSS) Senior Instructor and GIAC Security Leadership (GSLC) certified

CDR Devos graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1995, with a B.S. in Systems Engineering, Upon graduation, he reported to the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs for 9 months before proceeding to Pensacola, FL where he worked at the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Lab (NAMRL).  During his time there he worked on research a computer model for the inner ear.

In 1997, he reported to 5th Fleet, US Naval Central Command, Manama, Bahrain where he worked as an Automated Data Processing (ADP) Division Officer in charge of maintaining the computer systems for the Regional Headquarters.  He received his Information Assurance Manager (IAM) certification as a participant in the Navy’s pilot course during this tour.

In December of 1998, he reported to Fleet Numeric in Monterey, California where he was a watch officer and in charge of knowledge sharing across the command intranet.

From 2002-2004 he attended the Naval Post Graduate School where he received an MS in Information Technology Management with a minor in Computer Science.

In 2004-2005 he went to the Forcenet Execution Center which was responsible for coordinating and executing the Trident Warrior experiments.  He was in charge of the Web Enabled Warrior (WEW) experiments which measured the effectiveness of web enabled application on situation awareness.

In 2005 he became a member of the Naval Reserves and joined Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) as a Systems Engineer supporting multiple projects.

In October 2005 he was mobilized for 9 months to support operations in Gardez, Afghanistan.  He was in charge of the US network in Gardez and was the 203rd Corp Communications Officer.

In 2007-2010 He worked as a contractor supporting SPAWAR and the Navy’s Transition from DITSCAP (Department of Defense Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process) to DIACAP (DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process).

From July 2010 - July 2014 CDR DeVos was the Information Assurance Manager (IAM) for the Navy’s 4 Billion dollar program - Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES).  CDR DeVos was responsible for the accreditation of 5 networks, across multiple security domains, with multiple Decision Authorities on 100’s of platforms.

CDR DeVos reported to the U.S. Naval Academy in July, 2014 and is currently a Senior Military Instructor and Course Coordinator for SI110, Introduction to Cyber Security – Technical Foundations, a core course for every midshipman.
