CAPT JEFFREY D. BUSS, USN
Deputy Director – Center for Cyber Security Studies
CAPT Buss, a native of Wisconsin, is a 1993 graduate from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and was commissioned through the NROTC program. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Iowa, a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Touro University (Summa Cum Laude) and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. A member of the Acquisition Corps and Space Cadre, he holds the following professional certifications: Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH), Security+ and ITIL v3. He has served in information warfare billets at all levels, afloat and ashore with multiple command tours.
CAPT Buss's sea duty assignments include: Electronic Attack Squadron-133 where he was a Combat Strike Lead in Iraq, Commander Third Fleet, Combined Task Group 515.1/Joint Special Operations Task Force deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Combined Task Force 76/Expeditionary Strike Group 7 where he took part in 6 Humanitarian Aid/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) missions to include one of the largest efforts in recent history - Operation Tomodachi.
Shore assignments include: Electronic Countermeasure Warfare Officer training at Electronic Attack Squadron-129, Naval Officer Recruiting Station Iowa City, IA where he was awarded the “National Recruiter of the Year” award, the Deputy Director of Operations and MUOS acquisition lead at the Navy Satellite Operation Center, Naval Computer and Telecommunication Station (NCTS) Sicily where his Command supported combat operations across the Levant and the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) where his team ran the $24Bil DoD global network and defended 3+Mil users against cyber-attacks.
CAPT Buss had command of NCTS Sicily and the DISA Command Center at Fort Meade, MD. He holds various decorations and awards including the Defense Superior Service Medal.
He is currently serving at the United States Naval Academy as the Deputy Director for the newly established Center for Cyber Security Studies.
