McMullen Naval History Symposium

Welcome to the home of U.S. Naval Academy's McMullen Naval History Symposium. The History Department at Annapolis hosts this world renowned event biennially to highlight the latest research on naval and maritime history from academics and practitioners all over the globe. The 2019 McMullen Symposium will be held in Annapolis, Maryland, on 19-20 September, 2019. Held since 1973, the symposium has been described as the "largest regular meeting of naval historians in the world" and as the U.S. Navy's "single most important interaction with [an] academic historical audience."

Location:

The Symposium is located on "The Yard" at the U.S. Naval Academy, with events in Mahan Hall, Sampson Hall, Preble Hall and Alumni Hall.

Agenda:

Each day of the two day event begins with a light continental breakfast in Mahan Hall with publishers' book displays and an opportunity to mix with the leading naval historians in the world. AM and PM research panel sessions are held in the adjacent classrooms of Sampson Hall. 

Lunch on Thursday, 19 September will be held in Alumni Hall (first 150 registrants) and lunch on Friday, 20 September is open for attendees to enjoy Annapolis dining, or the Officer & Faculty Club and the Drydock Restaurant in Dahlgren Hall. A reception will be hosted at the USNA Museum in Preble Hall, with a cash bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres, prior to the plenary McMullen Seapower Address on Thursday evening.

Logistics (Lodging and Transportation):

The Symposium will provide transportation on and off the Naval Academy grounds each day. Shuttles will run from the Doubletree Annapolis hotel and the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium parking Lot A and B (Blue Side). For details on access to the Naval Academy if you do not intend to use the shuttle, visit the website of the Armel-Leftwich Visitor's Center at USNA.

Knox Award Dinner:

The Naval Historical Foundation hosts their Knox Award Dinner on the evening of 20 September at the Doubletree Hotel Annapolis, after the conclusion of the McMullen Symposium. For registration and details on the banquet visit the NHF website: http://www.navyhistory.org/
