Timothy Bertocci
Tim Bertocci is the Chief of Staff (DC) to Congressman Dean Phillips (D-MN) who was first elected to Congress in November 2018. Rep. Phillips sits on the Foreign Affairs, Financial Services and Ethics Committees.
In May 2017, Mr. Bertocci became the Deputy Chief of Staff to Congressman Tim Walz (D-MN) after serving as his Legislative Director for almost four years. Mr. Bertocci served as the primary policy advisor to the Congressman as well as leader of the Congressman’s Washington, DC office.
Mr. Bertocci graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1999 and, upon graduation, was commissioned as an Armor Officer in the United States Army. During his nine years of service, Mr. Bertocci has served in various leadership positions in the Active and Reserve Components to include serving in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. He has also deployed to Kuwait during Operation Intrinsic Action and the Republic of Korea during Operation Foal Eagle.After his service in the Army, Mr. Bertocci earned a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs and National Security from Georgetown University. Upon completing this degree, he has served in a variety of roles, which have included Deputy Director of Wounded Warrior Project’s Office of Policy and Government, Military Legislative Assistant to Congressman Walz, and Senior Operations Advisor to the Department of Defense’s Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO).
Just before returning to Congressman Walz’s office in 2013, Mr. Bertocci served in the Department of State as a Political Officer and Vice Consul in the Foreign Service. As a diplomat, he was assigned to the U.S. Interests Section in Havana, Cuba and Washington, DC. In his free time, Mr. Bertocci serves as an adjunct professor in the Political Science Department at the United States Naval Academy. Mr. Bertocci is originally from Montclair, VA and currently lives in Washington, DC.
