Robotics and Control Engineering Program

The Robotics and Control Engineering (RCE) Bachelor of Science Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission's General Criteria and the Systems Engineering Program Criteria. The program educational objectives, student outcomes, and enrollment and graduation data are presented in the sequel.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Our objective is to prepare our graduates to execute the expected duties of junior officers in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.  Within 5 years after commissioning, our graduates will:

  1. Have attained required qualifications within their warfare specialty, or have completed a graduate program in engineering,
  2. Supervise the operation and maintenance of Naval and Marine Corps engineering systems and equipment under their purview, and
  3. Communicate with both enlisted technicians and superior officers regarding the status, operation and maintenance of equipment, as well as train and qualify subordinates in such matters.

Student Outcomes

These are statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to skills, knowledge, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program:

  1. an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics,
  2. an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors,
  3. an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences,
  4. an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts,
  5. an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives,
  6. an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions, and
  7. an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
