Robotics and Control Engineering Program

The Robotics and Control Engineering (RCE) Bachelor of Science Program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Systems Engineering Program Criteria. The program educational objectives, student outcomes, and enrollment and graduation data are presented in the sequel.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Our objective is to prepare our graduates to execute the expected duties of junior officers in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.  Within 5 years after commissioning, our graduates will:

  1. Have attained required qualifications within their warfare specialty, or have completed a graduate program in engineering.
  2. Supervise the operation and maintenance of Naval and Marine Corps engineering systems and equipment under their purview.
  3. Communicate with both enlisted technicians and superior officers regarding the status, operation and maintenance of equipment, as well as train and qualify subordinates in such matters.

Student Outcomes

These are statements that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to skills, knowledge, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

(a) an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering

(b) an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data

(c) an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability

(d) an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams

(e) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

(f) an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility

(g) an ability to communicate effectively

(h) the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context

(i) a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning

(j) a knowledge of contemporary issues

(k) an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
