POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Center for Cyber Security Studies and the Cyber Science Department invite applications for the gift-funded Richard Keyser Distinguished Professor of Cyber Studies in the Center for Cyber Security Studies with a joint appointment in the Department of Cyber Science at the U.S. Naval Academy to begin as early as July of 2025.
Candidates must hold an advanced degree (MS or PhD), preferably in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering or similar technical field; must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching; and be qualified to teach upper-level courses relating to one or more of cyber network defense/attack, penetration testing, SCADA systems, cyber technology, social engineering in cyber operations, or national cyber security policy.
The primary duty will be to teach in the Cyber Operations major and core Cyber Security courses, while also developing new cyber-related courses. The courses taught will align with the background of the candidate, but can include introductory courses, as well as advanced courses in the Cyber Operations major. Additional duties include assisting midshipmen with research, giving seminars and guest lectures for faculty and midshipmen groups and hosting guest speakers at the Academy for lectures and seminars.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach upper-level courses within the Cyber Operations major
- Collaborate and advise in design and execution of research projects being executed by Naval Academy faculty and midshipmen and support of institutional research efforts
- Support faculty and curriculum development efforts based on areas of expertise (e.g., faculty brown -bags, curriculum review discussions, guest speaking)
This is an onsite, gift funded, 10-month compensation model, excepted service federal faculty position. Appointment will consist of an initial 2-year renewable appointment, with full federal benefits. Salary for this position is within the AD-09 pay band (minimum starting salary is approximately $125,000) and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- A Masters or Ph.D. in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Security, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field is required.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience or demonstrated interest in some or all of the following areas:
- At least 10 years experience in cybersecurity, computing, information technology and related efforts in either the government or private sector.
