POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The English Department invites applications for the position of Instructor (Senior Lecturer of English) to begin as early as August 2026. The anticipated teaching load is four courses per semester. The successful candidate should have expertise in teaching first year rhetoric and composition, with some classroom orientation toward the teaching of literature preferred. Candidates should be able to teach college writing across all levels of proficiency. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute appropriate service to support the departmental and institutional educational mission.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare for and teach assigned courses in the core English sequence
- Assess student performance
- Advise/assist students outside of class
- Contribute to assessment of student learning outcomes
- Design and develop courses, as assigned
- Participate in and contribute to governance and management of the department, programs, courses, school-level activities, yard-wide activities, as assigned
This is an onsite, 10-month compensation model, excepted service federal position with a 3-year renewable appointment, a highly competitive salary, and full federal benefits.

MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of an M.A., preferably in English rhetoric and composition or literature
- 2+ years of experience teaching college-level English with at least some first-year composition experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional experience, academic or otherwise, that demonstrates capacities for teamwork and leadership in both small groups and a departmental unit of roughly 30 faculty
- Previous experience working with the Federal government, particularly the military
- Native or fluent proficiency in English
